Hungry Poirot: Brunch at Caffe Nuovo

今日はまたまた North End へやって来ました。考えてみると、春や夏のお天気の良い時は North End に来ることが多いかも。海 (波止場) にも近く、Poirot を連れて歩ける公園などがたくさんあるからかな。反対に冬には South End や Back Bay によく行ってました (比較的駐車する場所が見つけやすいのでレストランのすぐ近くに車を止められるため、寒い中を歩かなくてもいいから)。

Today we came to North End again. We love to come to North End in summer and walk around.

今回はこの間行った Neptune Oyster のすぐ斜め向かいにある Caffe Nuovo にブランチを食べにやって来ました。ここは去年オープンしたレストランで、North End では珍しく毎朝7時から朝食が食べられるお店です。North End に住んでいる友人のお気に入りのお店で、以前から気になっていたのですが今まで来る機会がなく、今日が初トライです。

This time we tried the brunch at Caffe Nuovo, which opened sometime last year. It is located just across the street from Neptune Oyster that we visited last week, and is one of only a few restaurants in North End that serve breakfast every day from 7 am. My friend who lives in North End told me this restaurant was quite good, but I didn't have a chance to visit here until today.

１階はそんなに広くはない (どちらかというと狭い) ですが、窓から日の光がさしてとても明るく、居心地のよい空間です。地下にも席があるようですが行ってないのでわかりません。

The space is rather small, but is very bright and I felt pleasant. I guess several tables are in the basement as well, but I don't know for sure.

とりあえず、コーヒー。North End のお店だけあって、薄～いアメリカンコーヒーではなくおいしいコーヒーでした。

First of all we ordered coffee. It was quite tasty.

朝食・ブランチメニューは基本的にアメリカンスタイルなのですが、少しイタリア風にアレンジしてあります。私はカプレーゼサラダ付きのスクランブルエッグを注文。かなり大きめのお皿にボリュームたっぷりに出てきました。モッツァレらチーズが新鮮でなかなかいけます。卵にもペストソースがかかっていて一工夫されています。

They basically serve American style breakfast with some Italian twists. I ordered the scrambled eggs with the Caprese salad. Fresh mozzarella and tomatoes were refreshing and good.

夫はミラノ風子牛のカツレツ＋目玉焼き。こちらは私のよりもさらにボリュームたっぷり。値段は抑え目なのでお得感があります。隣のテーブルの人たちがロブスター付きのエッグズベネディクトを食べていて、それを見た夫が次は絶対これを注文すると言ってました。

My husband ordered the veal Milanese and eggs. The portions were very big for both of our meals. He saw someone sitting at the next table to us eating the eggs Benedict with lobster meat, and decided to order it next time!

その後は Poirot を連れて近くを散策。私が言うのもなんですが、Poirot は結構人気者ですれ違う人たちによく声をかけてもらったり、なでてもらったりします。人によるのかそのときの気分によるのかわかりませんがPoirot はぜんぜん相手にしない時とうれしそうにする時があります (せっかくかまってもらってるのに相手にしないときは私のほうが恐縮してしまいます)。

After the meal we walked around the area. Poirot is always very popular and many people want to pet him (but sometimes he totally ignores those people and I feel a bit embarrassed...).

North End にある Paul Revere の銅像の前 (というか後ろからですが) を通りかかったのですが、なんかいつもと雰囲気が違う?

When we passed by the statue of Paul Revere, I felt something was different...

近づいてよく見てみるとなんと Boston Bruins (ボストンのプロアイスホッケーチーム) のユニフォームを着ています! しかも名前入りの!

Then we got closer, and found out the statue wore the Bruins uniform with his name on it!

このときはまだ Stanley Cup のプレイオフを戦っている時だったので、誰かが応援のために着せたのでしょうか? (おかげで Bruins は6/15にチャンピオンシップのタイトルを獲得しました!!)

At that time, the Bruins was still playing the playoffs, so I guess someone put the uniform on it to cheer up?? (And they won the Stanley Cup championship!! Yay!)
