 30分ほど待って、いよいよ修道院に入場です。ちなみに私達が購入したのは修道院とベレンの塔共通券。おかげでベレンの塔には並ばずには入れました。両方行かれる方にはお勧めです。中は思わず感嘆の声を上げてしまうほど素敵です。After ~30 min of wait, finally we could get into the monastery (by the way we purchased the combined tickets for the monastery and the Belém Tower, so we didn't have to wait in the line to enter the tower later; recommended if you visit both). It was sooo beautiful inside. |
 この修道院の建築費用はバスコ・ダ・ガマのインド航路開拓などによってもたらされた香辛料貿易の利益で賄われました。マヌエル様式の最高傑作といわれています。The construction of the monastery was funded by the profits from trading spices that were first brought by Vasco da Gama from India. |
 壁や柱一面にこれでもかというほど装飾か施されています。All the columns are carved in different designs. |
 石灰岩でできているらしいですが、石の色が金色掛かっているので、光の当たり具合によって輝いて見えてとてもきれい。The building is made of a gold colored limestone, and depending on the direction of sun light, it looked very shiny. |
 階段で二階に上がります。Then we went upstairs. |
 階段を上りついてすぐのところにある入り口から、サンタマリア教会の二階部分を見学することができます。On the second floor is the door connected to the Church of Santa Maria. |
 二階からだと教会の全体像が見渡せます。From the second floor, we could see the entire church. |
 二階の回廊。一階とは少しデザインが違います。The cloister on the second floor is designed slightly differently from that on the first floor. |

 アーチに施されている装飾はとても繊細で、遠くから見るとレースが掛かっている様に見えます。The decorations on the arches are so delicate and it looked like lace curtains from far. |
 よく見てみると柱の装飾も一本一本異なるデザインで、何十本もある柱のうち同じデザインのものは一つとしてありません。すごい! I noticed that every single column has different carvings. No two columns have same design. Amazing! |

 私達が見終わったころには入場待ちの行列がすご～く長くなっていました。これだと2~3時間待たないといけないんじゃないかなあ。朝一に来ることをお勧めします。When we came out, the line to enter the monastery became very very long. I think it would take 2~3 hour to get in. I recommend to come here early in the morning. |
